SQL DBMS software is multi threaded, multi-user with approximately six million installations worldwide. MySQL AB (now under Sun Microsystems) makes MySQL available as freeware under the GNU GPL, but they also sell under a commercial license for those cases where their use is incompatible with the GPL.
